Load balancing and load limiting

CleverEV implements a cloud-based multi-level load limiting and load balancing, combined with a dynamic electric capacity monitoring and charger and personal prioritization.

The charging is being balanced and prioritized on all the levels at the same time, between all the manageable devices. This process can be used to balance the charging between users on the same level of the parking garage, then between the levels in the garage and on the highest level - between the parking house and the rest of the electric consumers.

In simple situations, the consumption can be setup by the manager of the Namespace, who can setup:

  • maximum electric capacity available for the group of chargers
  • maxim power available per charging port
  • maximum current per cable (protecting the cable infrastructure)

More complex balancing and limiting schemes can be setup with the assistance of the CleverEV team.

  • multi-level parameters and balancing (example on the diagram above: balancing between the Green and Orange groups or on the level of the Black group
  • dynamic parameters: for example, the available electric capacity is being measured and adjusted dynamically for a group of devices and the balancing is being adjusted to the new value. This requires a the CleverEV Dynamizer (a device, which is being developed to support the balancing process between multiple types of chargers of multiple manufacturing vendors)

The Load Balancing rules are set through the Location / Load Balancing menu point in the web console. In the above console the highest priority is to ensure, that the first charger (named “Duosida”) first gets 10A capacity, on a second priority the second charger (names “Demo 22kW”) receives 10A, on a third place is ensuring 8A to charger 1 and if the above priorities are satisfied, then the remaining electricity is balanced between the two devices.

Cases, when temporary Prioritization of a specific charger is required, are supported through the CleverEV mobile app. Users, authorized for the current Namespace can overwrite the balancing parameters and prioritize their charging process. The function can be used for example to start charging in restricted period of time or make a full charging capacity for the process when there are multiple charging devices applying for the capacity.
