Why do I need an EV charger - cannot I charge directly from the socket?

While it’s technically possible to charge an electric vehicle (EV) using a standard electrical socket, there are several reasons why using a dedicated EV charger is preferred:

  1. Faster Charging Speed: EV chargers are designed to deliver higher power levels than standard electrical sockets. This results in faster charging times, which can be crucial for those who need to charge their EV quickly, especially when they are on the go or have a limited time frame.
  2. Safety Features: EV chargers typically come with built-in safety features such as ground fault protection, overcurrent protection, and temperature monitoring to ensure safe charging. Using a standard socket may not offer these same protections, increasing the risk of electrical hazards.
  3. Extra features: EV chargers are specifically designed to be compatible with electric vehicles, ensuring efficient and reliable charging. Their application or managing system adds key functionality to the devices: load balancing of the available electricity, load limiting (protecting your electric wires and sockets) and you will also be able to receive payments for the consumed electricity.

While it’s possible to charge an EV using a standard socket in certain situations, investing in a dedicated EV charger often provides a more reliable, efficient, and convenient charging experience in the long run.
